What Happened
On 7 June 2011, a visibly frail Steve Jobs made what would be his final public appearance, presenting plans to the Cupertino City Council for a new Apple headquarters: a single circular building housing 12,000 people, 'a little like a spaceship landed', set in a landscape that would invert the site's proportions — from about 80 per cent buildings and parking to about 80 per cent open green space. There would not be a straight piece of glass in the building. Jobs acknowledged this was 'not the cheapest way to build something'. He died four months later.
